The Spin-Speed Trade-Off
Every swing you make is a negotiation between two variables: racket head speed and contact angle. To generate heavy topspin, you brush upward across the ball at a steep angle. This is efficient for spin production — but it comes at a direct cost to forward momentum.
In biomechanical terms, the energy transferred to the ball is split between two vectors: the forward (translational) vector and the upward (rotational) vector. The more you commit to the upward brush, the less energy goes forward.
